Apple for Texas

For me, it was Cummings' love poems that mattered. Here is a little poem I made (with him in mind I realize) for my friend, Texas. I cannot help myself. She's adorable.

Apple

As you bite
into it I thank
the green apple –
just hard enough
to make the tendons rise,
the way they do
sometimes, in your
slender neck – for showing
how you’re put
so beautifully together.

I am working on the leap between the dashes -

Hey:
Keith:

Thanks for the heads-up on the link to your blog. I have made the correction. I like your poem, too.

Oddly enough, I was just eating a Granny Smith apple.

All the Best,

Greg Rappleye

Keith--Thanks for letting me know you're back to blogging. My blogroll has been duly updated. I was actually going to send you a note today saying I was sorry to see you go. What's the line about "the reports of my death, etc etc"?

I'm in fine fettle today. Much better than the last couple of weeks. Minimal coughing and arm pain.

I like the poem. It's so clean and clear. I envy that. How's the long beach poem coming? I've been looking around for those comments from D. Hall about long term composition and am coming up blank. I know they were in the early editions of the Best American Poetry Series, but can't lay my hands on em.

Take care. Best,
RJ

Greg, of the apples I hear they are best for pies. I always end up talking about food with you. Next thing you know I will be thinking about one of those olive cheeseburgers from Russ's.

RJ, thanks for the note, man. Nice to hear from you.

Glad you like the apple poem. Originally it was trying to make it a tanka, but it resisted successfully. Just a little sweet thing I gave my wife for our anniversary.

Arrrgh! The long poem. I have

actually been tinkering with it of late, and making promises to myself to get it to a better place and then send the damn thing out.

Well I had to check out the post labeled "apple." I have a long history with apples. I really like the poem! I'm having fun wandering around your blog and have added it on my link list.
